All of the elements in the universe, other than Hydrogen and Helium, were made by the stars. Thus, most of what we are made of as well as much of the matter
on Earth and the other planets are made by the two generations of stars that preceded our Sun.
In this talk we will learn about how the stars were created, how they evolve during their active lives, and how they end their existence. We will do this by
focusing on medium sized stars like the Sun and stars that are 10X larger than the Sun. This will naturally lead to how all of the elements in the periodic table were created. A key aspect of this is involved in the last stage of the lives of the largest stars which result in massive explosions called supernovae. We will end the talk with a brief discussion of the strange objects which are created at the end of star’s lives like black holes, neutron stars, and white dwarfs. All of this will be done with pictures, diagrams, and No Math!
