Following up on his exceptionally popular talk in April “A River Out of Time, The Colorado River 150 years after John Wesley Powell”, we are thrilled to have Dr. Minckley back in person on July 6th to share more of his work! 

The Colorado River system is in the midst of a prolonged drought that threatens water, energy, and food supplies in the American West.  Winter snow in 2023, has provided some relief to the system, but the cumulative impact of 20 plus years of water deficit means strategies to balance supply and demand pressures on the system are as critical today as they were yesterday. Dam management of the Colorado River system is no longer just moving volumes of water from the headwaters to the agricultural fields of southern California and Arizona. Now we add river and environmental health to the mix. This talk will highlight how science is changing management of the entire socio-ecological system that is the modern Colorado.
