Outcrop of the Month - Teton Fault - September, 2016
“Jensen Canyon: Geology in Action at the foot of the Tetons”
We had a very well attended outcrop of the month last Wednesday afternoon. Those of us able to follow Dave Adams up the creek were well rewarded and slightly wet. As we waded/walked across the main Teton fault in the one place along the entire fault where the fault is bisected by a narrow flat bottomed creek (cleaned out by a 2008 debris flow) that allows close inspection of the 2.6 billion year old gneiss broken and shattered by movement on the fault. Thank you very much Dave for a close up view of the fault that created both the Tetons and Jackson Hole!
