Story of Earth
September 15 (Tuesday), 6 p.m., Teton Co. Library Auditorium – Open to Public. Presentation: ” The Story of Earth”.
Presented by Scott Adams, Chevron Corporation (Retired)
Scott Adams will present “The Story of Earth”, a lecture on planet Earth’s origins and its evolution to where it is today. The lecture is derived from the book by the same title published by geologist Robert M. Hazen in 2012.
Whereas most attempts to describe our earth’s history concentrate on only the last 12% of Earth’s existence – following the “Cambrian Explosion” when complex life arose and became abundant, thus focusing on life’s evolution, this story starts at the beginning of earth’s history, and shows the coevolution of the diverse aspects of what constitutes the entirety of our earth: its geosphere, biosphere and atmosphere throughout its 4.6 billion year history. Nothing happens in one sphere without impacting the others. The story concludes by providing predictions about earth’s short, medium and long term future as a planet within our solar system.
